Our 13-Mile Scenic Float Trip is the best value in a scenic float trip in Jackson Hole. Our picturesque float trips are ideal for nature lovers and animal watchers. You’ll enjoy the warm summer afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of the Snake River and its cooling waters. You'll see local wildlife on the excursion that call the area home, and will float through Wyoming's best bald eagle nesting habitat.
The bald eagle is king on this stretch of the river, among the finest habitats for our nation's symbol in the lower 48 states. Osprey and Pelicans compete for the native cutthroat trout as well, and moose, deer, and elk occasionally appear to take a drink or escape the summer heat. Look for deer and moose drinking on the shore and white pelicans or other adept fish-hunters like osprey or great blue herons hovering overhead. Beavers, otters, and even bears frequent this area.
Our skilled guide oars the raft during this two-hour relaxing float excursion and allows you to sit back and enjoy the majestic scenery. Capture the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife with cameras and binoculars. This journey is appropriate for all skill levels and ages, with a three-year-old minimum age requirement. FAQs
What kind of clothing is recommended for scenic trips?
Although you are unlikely to get wet, synthetic or wool layers are great for insulation on chillier days. On warmer days, we recommend dressing for sun protection, such as a synthetic lightweight fishing shirt. You're welcome to dress for comfort on this trip. We recommend bringing a windbreaker or rain jacket just in case, as mountain weather can sometimes be unpredictable, but we will provide ponchos to anyone who needs them in the event of rain. For footwear, sandals are a great option, but you may wear sneakers or other comfortable footwear.
What kind of footwear is recommended?
Secure shoes are best on scenic float trips. Keep in mind that they may get wet boarding and disembarking the boat.
Can I wear my glasses?
Yes! It is recommended that you wear some sort of eyewear retainer such as Croakies or Chums for both prescription glasses and sunglasses. Retainers are available for sale at our office.
Can I bring a camera or a phone?
Do not bring any of the above on whitewater trips, because they are almost certain to get wet and damaged. If you own a waterproof camera or would like to bring a disposable waterproof camera, you may. But please bear in mind that picture-taking should not interfere with your ability to paddle. On whitewater trips, some folks will be photographing and videotaping your trip through the largest rapids. We will provide you with information about this after your trip. You may go to their office and view proofs with no obligation to buy, or look at proofs on their websites.
Do we wear helmets?
No helmets are required for the Snake as it is a calm stretch of clear channel river.
General Safety
Safety is a priority at Lewis & Clark, and our record reflects it. Our guides have training that exceeds the standards set forth by our permit administrators. We do all we can to make your trip as safe as possible while giving you the thrills and experiences you seek in a river trip. However, there are many risks beyond our control on a river trip, and you will be required to sign a form acknowledging those risks.
What class rapids are on the Snake River?
This stretch of the Snake River is Class II, generally flat and relaxing where you can relax and take in the scenery and wildlife.
Do we raft in bad weather?
Occasionally weather may affect the ability to operate and enjoy or scenic float trips. We watch the weather carefully and are well aware of the usual patterns for this area. We do not cancel river trips based on forecasts or if it's raining at our office. It is also important to remember that your trip launches nearly 25 miles from town, so the weather here is likely different than it is at the river. We may cancel scenic floats if the doppler radar for the area we are rafting shows concerning levels of extreme weather. Please check in for your trip, as this is a decision we will make at the time of departure, not sooner. We do not want our guest to be uncomfortable, we take fleece lined ponchos even on sunny days "just in case", please trust us to know that we are watching the weather and will not put you in harms way. If we cancel a trip we will provide a full refund or reschedule you depending on availability and your preference.
Do I need previous experience?
No experience is necessary to take a raft trip with Lewis & Clark. Most of our customers are first-time rafters, so we have a great deal of experience and skill in giving great experiences to novices. We take kids as young as 3 on our scenic float trips.
Do you take large groups?
We have a maximum group size of 30 on scenic floats. We do have the option to put in for special permits for larger groups upon request.
