Surf Lessons in Rincon for Families, Couples, or Individuals!

Get stoked to catch some waves in one of the most iconic surf towns in the world—Rincon, Puerto Rico. Whether you're brand new to surfing or looking to sharpen your skills, our surf lessons are tailored for every level, from total beginners to advanced riders looking to fine-tune their technique. With consistent waves, warm water, and stunning beach breaks, Rincon is the ultimate classroom for your surf journey.

Choose from a one-on-one private lesson, a semi-private session with up to five friends, or bring the whole crew for a group lesson of six or more. Our expert instructors know these waters inside and out, and they’ll walk you through everything from paddling and popping up to reading ocean conditions like wind, current, and reef structure. Before you hit the water, you’ll go through safety tips and technique drills on the sand to build confidence and set you up to send it when the waves roll in.
You’ll get personalized coaching throughout the lesson to help you catch your first wave—or your best one yet. Surfboard, water, and all the good vibes are included. It’s a rad way to learn a new skill, challenge yourself, and have a blast in the warm Caribbean surf.

FAQs

What sunscreen can I use and why does it matter?

Common sunscreens contain chemicals that can harm coral reefs, as the particles are small enough to be absorbed by corals, causing toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens are formulated without these harmful chemicals. Reef-SAFE sunscreens go a step further by using non-nano particles, which are too large for corals to ingest, helping to preserve marine ecosystems.

Please avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Consider wearing sun-protective clothing, like long-sleeve rash guards, as an alternative to sunscreen. If you choose a mineral-based sunscreen, ensure it is labeled ‘non-nano.’

Are there sharks?

Shark incidents in Puerto Rico’s waters are extremely rare, and serious injuries are even rarer. When you enter the ocean, it’s important to remember that it’s a natural, wild environment with many types of marine life, including sharks. Although the chances of a shark-related injury are very low, they are still part of the ocean’s ecosystem, and the ocean should be approached with respect. By learning about sharks and following safety guidelines, you can minimize even this small risk.

What are some safety tips for surfing in Puerto Rico?

  • Respect the Ocean: Please know your skill level and avoid areas with strong currents and big waves if you are a beginner! There are often rip currents at this beach, please be aware of them if you choose to swim before or after your lesson.
  • Understand the Local Breaks: Every surf spot is unique with waves breaking in different ways, potential hazards that are hidden from view (coral and rocks), and local surfing etiquette.
  • Surf with a Buddy: It is always safer to have a friend to look after each other and assist in emergencies.
  • Stay Hydrated and Use Sunscreen: Please use reef-safe sunscreen that won’t damage the fragile ecosystems around Hawaii.
  • Avoid Surfing during Hurricane Swells
