Our open water dives are made from Playa Crashboat, one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico. We practice shore diving at Crashboat Watersports meaning you wade in from the beach and there’s no need for a boat. The beach was once a military port and a network of piers were constructed on the shore. Over the years and with the help of a few storms and hurricanes, the piers have crumbled and collapsed creating a wreck site. This area evolved into the perfect habitat for sea life, coral formed on the pier columns and continues to attract a diverse range of tropical fish, seahorses, trumpet fish, turtles, and much more. Your instructor will ensure you feel confident at every stage and can easily manage diving skills to ensure a safe dive.

Please be respectful of the fact that coral is a living organism and any standing, touching, or knocking over will irreparably damage the organism that takes a very long time to grow and is essential to our marine reefs. Please also be respectful of any marine animals including but not limited to turtles, rays, sharks, seals, and dolphins. Please never chase, harass, feed, or TOUCH any of the marine species. Enjoy their company if they approach from a distance and calmly move away from them if in their path.

FAQs
Can I fly after diving?
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
- A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 12 hours suggested.
- Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 18 hours is suggested.
- Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
Can I go hiking after diving?
Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.
Do we take a boat?
No boat is required to get to the beautiful reefs of Aguadilla and Rincón. We wade in from the beach and swim to the reefs.
Do you have military discounts?
Yes, we do. To thank you for your service, we give a 10% discount to the service member on any tour or dive course. Please let the desk agent checking you in know that you are an active duty or retired service member to receive your discount. Be ready to show your military ID.
Is a medical examination required?
Prior to participating in any scuba diving experience, you will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire. Certain conditions preclude us from taking you on a scuba experience without clearance from a doctor. If you feel you have any medical condition that may prevent you from participating, give us a call and we can send you a medical form for your physician to sign before you will be able to participate in a scuba experience. For all dive and snorkel participants, please let the guide know if you have any concerns or medical conditions they should be aware of.
Do I need a wetsuit or skin?
Water temperature in Puerto Rico ranges from 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months (December-March) to 84 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. Most divers get cold in the winter months and a wetsuit is recommended. At other times of the year, wetsuits are good for abrasion protection. Wetsuits are available for rental for an additional fee, check out our rental rates for more information.
I am pregnant. Can I participate in the diving tour?
Scuba diving while pregnant is strictly prohibited.
How old do I have to be to take a diving tour?
For any scuba diving tour, the minimum age is 10 years.
Will I be able to park at the beach?
There is adequate free parking at most of the snorkeling and dive sites. Some sites (especially during the winter months) tend to have lots of visitors and parking can be crowded.
What sunscreen can I use and why does it matter?
Common sunscreens contain chemicals that can harm coral reefs, as the particles are small enough to be absorbed by corals, causing toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens are formulated without these harmful chemicals. Reef-SAFE sunscreens go a step further by using non-nano particles, which are too large for corals to ingest, helping to preserve marine ecosystems.
Please avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Consider wearing sun-protective clothing, like long-sleeve rash guards, as an alternative to sunscreen. If you choose a mineral-based sunscreen, ensure it is labeled ‘non-nano.’
I want to become a certified diver when I come down for vacation. What should I do to accomplish that and how much time do I need?
If you have never experienced scuba diving before, we recommend scheduling a Discover Scuba Dive which will give you a taste of what scuba diving is like. If you are ready to sign up for a scuba certifying course, the first step is to purchase your eLearning books from PADI. You can complete the eLearning on your computer before you even leave your home. Once you arrive, you will be able to start diving right away. Allow a minimum of 3-4 days to get a certification.
