Description

Hike to the Most Iconic Landmark in McDowell Sonoran Preserve!

Visit the famous 200-foot tall granite monolith called Tom’s Thumb in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve of Scottsdale with a certified, expert guide on this guided hiking adventure! Our expert guides are certified in Wilderness First Aid, as Wilderness First Responders or as EMTs, and are experienced in this terrain, ensuring your safety throughout the hike.
Ascend the switchbacks to take in the views of the largest city-owned preserve in the world, spanning over 30,500 acres. You’ll make your way up to the renowned landmark, Tom’s Thumb, named after a local rock climber who was the first Arizona Mountaineering Club member to climb it. Along the route, you can take in the view from 5 different overlooks before reaching the landmark up close. From the top, soak in the views of Scottsdale, Four Peaks, Valley of the Sun, and the surrounding areas!
With backpacks and snacks provided, all you need to bring is a good attitude and readiness for adventure! Our guides will help you explore a few little-known “secret” areas along the way, adding an extra layer of discovery to your hike!
