Description

Canyon Lake Paddle Tour

Majestic canyon walls line the shoreline on this lake located about 50 minutes from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa.  Canyon Lake located in the Superstition Mountains in the Tonto National Forest and is a popular spot for kayaking, paddle boarding with its coves and scenic cliffs.
Explore some of the lake's beautiful scenery and wildlife that can be found along the tour. Maybe capture some diverse desert wildlife like a bald eagles nest, big horn sheep, deer, turtles and blue heron. The contrast of the blue water against the bold topography is like no where else in the world.
The route of the tour can vary due to weather and paddlers' abilities. We always chose the safest route and no paddler is left behind. We plan for at least one or two breaks during the tour for snacks and photos. Prior Kayaking experience is recommended but not required. Participants should be comfortable on open water and be able to swim.

Location

Meeting location will be at Boulder Recreation Site on the beach at the first parking lot. This location is easily accessible via a scenic drive on the historic Apache Trail (Hwy 88).  Try to be parked at least 15-minutes before the adventure begins. Parking on Holidays and weekends can be full so it is best to arrive early.
Launching from this modest beach, the protected lagoon is a great place to launch and get paddles wet. Depending on the conditions, the route will head out to Tortilla Creek, the Mormon Flat Dam and the first water bridge for a 3-mile (approx. 2.5-3 hours) paddle tour.

Included

Your guide will provide all necessary paddle equipment, tips and information for an amazing experience.  Kayaks or stand up paddleboards, paddles, life-jackets, and a dry bag.  We also provide parking passes, water and light snacks.

Tour Details

All of our tour guides are certified through the American Canoe Association (ACA) for instruction, guiding, and water-safety. Each guide is first aid and CPR certified. Riverbound is an authorized outfitter operating under permit through the Tonto National Forest Mesa District.
